We are committed to providing clear and transparent arrangements for the charging of our fees in all matters. You will always be provided with a quote or an estimate, in writing, once you have provided us with sufficient information regarding the work you would like us to carry out for you.

The Solicitor’s Regulation Authority requires that we publish price and service information in relation to the following areas of work, which you will find set out below:

Employment Tribunals (Unfair and Wrongful Dismissal)

Unfair Dismissal

Hourly rates –

Grade A – Partners and Senior Solicitors over 8 years Post Qualification Experience – £217.00 to £275.00 plus VAT

Grade B – Solicitors between 4 to 8 years Post Qualification Experience – £192.00 to £216.00 plus VAT

Grade C – Solicitors up to 4 years Post Qualification Experience – £161.00 to £191.00 plus VAT

Grade D – Trainee Solicitors and Paralegals – £118.00 to £160.00 plus VAT

Range of costs :

For a 1 day hearing at the Employment Tribunal the range of costs is £4,000.00 to £8,000.00 plus VAT and disbursements, although this does depend on how complex the issues are and the volume of documentation involved and the number of witnesses.

Anticipated disbursements – Barrister’s fees:

Dealing with preliminary hearing – £500.00 to £1,000.00 plus VAT
Attending a meeting to provide advice – £500.00 to £2,000.00 plus VAT
Dealing with the final hearing or mediation – £750.00 to £2,000.00 plus VAT

The fees will depend upon the seniority of the Barrister who is instructed.

The main stages of the case are as follows:

Not all cases can be dealt with in one day at the Tribunal and so for a two day hearing, the costs will increase and the range is likely to be up to £10,000.00 plus VAT and, in addition, Barrister’s fees will increase, likely up to £2,500.00 plus VAT for the hearing.

Three day hearing or more

If two days is not sufficient for the Tribunal final hearing, then fees will increase again and will likely be in he region of £14,000.00 or more plus VAT, and the fees will increase proportionately depending on the number of additional days the Tribunal hearing lasts for. In relation to the Barrister’s fees, these will also increase proportionately and it will be necessary to agree the Barrister’s fees separately, depending upon the actual number of days the Tribunal hearing will last.

Wrongful Dismissal

Hourly rates –

Grade A – Partners and Senior Solicitors over 8 years Post Qualification Experience – £217.00 to £275.00 plus VAT

Grade B – Solicitors between 4 to 8 years Post Qualification Experience – £192.00 to £216.00 plus VAT

Grade C – Solicitors up to 4 years Post Qualification Experience – £161.00 to £191.00 plus VAT

Grade D – Trainee Solicitors and Paralegals – £118.00 to £160.00 plus VAT

Range of costs – £4,500.00 to £9,000.00 plus VAT

Anticipated disbursements – Barrister’s fees:

Dealing with preliminary hearing – £500.00 to £1,000.00 plus VAT
Attending a meeting to provide advice – £500.00 to £2,000.00 plus VAT
Dealing with the final hearing or mediation – £750.00 to £2,000.00 plus VAT

The fees will depend upon the seniority of the Barrister who is instructed.

Court fees – The Court fees that are payable depend upon the value of the claim and we will be able to tell you exactly what the Court fees are once we know how much your claim is likely to be worth, although you will need to factor in payment of a Court issue fee to start the claim and also a Court hearing fee for a final hearing and any additional Court fees for applications which need to be made to the Court during the course of the claim.

The main stages of the litigation are as follows:

The stages and range of costs set out above provide an indication of likely final costs but if some of the stages are not reached, then the cost will be less. If a case settles early by negotiation, then costs could be significantly less. You may have legal expenses insurance which covers your legal costs.

The general timescale for conclusion of your case is between 1 month to 12 months, depending upon what stage your case reaches before it is concluded.

Estate Administration and Probate

Probate is the process for dealing with the estate of someone who has died, which which generally means clearing their debts and distributing their assets in accordance with their will, or if they do not have one under the ‘Rules of Intestacy’

Our Private Client Team has extensive experience in dealing with Probate and can help you with all matters from solely applying for the Grant of Representation to dealing with the administration of the estate in its entirety.

No two cases are ever the same, and the amount of work involved, and complexities varies from case to case.

Estates can appear simple from the outset, but as the administration of the estate develops then issues can arise which can make the administration more involved and complex, so the final costs would depend on how complicated it becomes.

An estimate of fees would be discussed with you once we have full details of the estate and circumstances, and at this time we would also discuss and agree with you the fee earner’s rate for work undertaken on a time-spent basis.

Examples of fees

Straightforward application for the Grant of Probate – with administration of estate being dealt with by the executors/administrators

£500 – £750 plus VAT and disbursements

30-minute initial meeting to take instructions with the executors providing full values of the estate assets and liabilities

Confirmation of instructions in writing and protocol forms issued to executors only

Completion of HM Revenue IHT205 form and preparation of Oath, with arrangements being made for documents to be signed/sworn

Grant of Representation issued to executor to deal with the estate administration

Non-taxable estates – administration of estate

1% of the gross value of the estate plus time spent basis (fees detailed below) anticipated to be in the region of £2,500 – £5,000 + VAT and disbursements, subject to the value of the estate, the number of assets and beneficiaries

30-minute initial meeting to take instructions with the executors providing full details of the estate assets and liabilities
